Rachael's Profile / CV

Statement

Rachael’s work often theatricalises nature and her form of visual expression is influenced by complexities of reflection and childhood, daydream and fairytale. Drawing on inspiration from historical romantics such as Casper David Friedrich, the Pre-Raphaelites, Gustav Klimt, and contemporary artists and writers who express romantic elements through their work.

Rachael’s desire to create figurative sculpture and image stems also from her interest in the many vistas of the physical bodily form. Often she is inspired not only by the Classical but also Renaissance, Cubist and contemporary ideas of expression, rendering her work a visual contemplation of the many dynamics of the body. Working from the premise that capturing the figure must transcend the limitations of physical representation - that there is the emotional and spiritual aspects of everything living and to be true to modern and contemporary artistic expression, she delves into these elements and complexities that exist within the subject matter. In her opinion it is only then that figurative sculpture becomes an authentic art form.
